Is Rolling Motion in the NEET 2027 Syllabus? What’s In and Out of Rotational Motion

Short answer: No. There is no rolling motion in NEET syllabus 2027 as things stand. It was removed from the Class 11 NCERT Physics book in the rationalisation, and the NMC syllabus for the Rotational Motion unit does not list it, so you should not expect a dedicated rolling question. For the full list of removed topics across all subjects, see our guide to the NEET 2027 deleted syllabus.

This page explains what is still in the unit, what is out, how to treat old rolling PYQs, and which other Physics topics you can skip. Until the official NEET 2027 syllabus is released, everything here follows the current NMC syllabus, which was unchanged for 2026. To see what the unit still asks, browse the free Rotational Motion PYQs.

Rolling Motion in NEET Syllabus 2027: The Evidence

  • NCERT: the section on rolling motion was dropped from the Class 11 chapter “System of Particles and Rotational Motion” in the rationalised textbook.
  • NMC syllabus: the Rotational Motion unit lists centre of mass, torque, angular momentum, rotational inertia and the equations of rotational motion. It does not list rolling.
  • NEET 2027: no new syllabus has been released yet. If NMC’s 2027 notification adds rolling back, this page will be updated the same day.

For the whole subject, see our NEET 2027 Physics syllabus chapter list, and track any changes in our 2026 vs 2027 syllabus comparison. The Rotational Motion class notes cover the theory that remains.

Rotational Motion NEET Syllabus: What’s In and What’s Out

TopicStatus
Centre of mass of a two-particle system and of a rigid bodyIn
Moment of a force, torqueIn
Angular momentum and its conservation, with applicationsIn
Moment of inertia and radius of gyrationIn

The rotational motion NEET syllabus is still one of the heaviest parts of Physics, usually giving two to three questions. Our Rotational Motion preparation guide explains how to stop losing marks in the topics that remain, and our older set of rotational motion practice questions covers them too.

What About Old Rolling PYQs?

Many past NEET and AIPMT papers include rolling questions, such as the acceleration of a sphere rolling down an incline or the ratio of rotational to total kinetic energy. Because there is no rolling motion in NEET syllabus 2027, adjust how you practise NEET physics PYQs from this unit:

  • Skip questions that need rolling formulas, such as a = g sin θ / (1 + k²/R²) or v = √[2gh / (1 + k²/R²)].
  • Keep questions on rotational inertia, torque and angular momentum, even if a rolling object appears in passing. These ideas are still in the syllabus.

What to Focus On Instead

These are the questions NTA keeps asking from this unit:

  • Moment of inertia of rings, discs, rods and spheres, using the parallel and perpendicular axes theorems
  • Conservation of angular momentum, for example a skater pulling in her arms or a person walking on a rotating platform
  • Torque and angular acceleration: τ = Iα
  • Centre of mass of simple systems and of bodies with a part removed
  • Rotational kinetic energy: KE = ½Iω²

Quick Formula Sheet for the In-Syllabus Topics

Body (axis)I
Ring (through centre, perpendicular to plane)MR²
Disc (through centre, perpendicular to plane)½MR²
Solid sphere (diameter)⅖MR²
Hollow sphere (diameter)⅔MR²
Thin rod (through centre, perpendicular to length)ML²/12
Thin rod (through one end, perpendicular to length)ML²/3

Remember three relations as well: L = Iω, τ = dL/dt, and when no external torque acts, I₁ω₁ = I₂ω₂. These cover most rotation questions in recent papers.

NEET 2027 Deleted Topics in Physics

Rolling is not the only Physics topic removed. Others include:

ChapterTopic not in the current syllabus
ThermodynamicsHeat engines, refrigerators and the Carnot cycle
Magnetism and MatterEarth’s magnetism
Semiconductor ElectronicsTransistors and their applications

These NEET 2027 deleted topics can be skipped until a new syllabus says otherwise.

Conclusion

Rolling is not part of the current NEET syllabus, so rolling motion in NEET syllabus 2027 is a topic you can skip unless the official 2027 syllabus brings it back. Spend that time on rotational inertia, angular momentum and torque, which are still asked every year.

FAQ

Q: Is rolling motion in the NEET 2027 syllabus? A: No. There is no rolling motion in NEET syllabus 2027 as currently notified. It was removed from NCERT Class 11 Physics and is not listed in the NMC syllabus.

Q: Is rotational motion still in the NEET syllabus? A: Yes. Centre of mass, torque, angular momentum, rotational inertia and rotational dynamics are all still included.

Q: Should I solve old rolling PYQs? A: Skip those that need rolling formulas. Keep any that test rotational inertia, torque or angular momentum.

Q: Is moment of inertia in the NEET 2027 syllabus? A: Yes, including the values for simple objects and the parallel and perpendicular axes theorems.

Q: How many questions come from rotational motion in NEET? A: Usually two to three questions, which makes it one of the heaviest units in Class 11 Physics.

Q: What other Physics topics were removed? A: Topics such as heat engines and the Carnot cycle, Earth’s magnetism and transistors are not in the current syllabus.
